The author does not mean the values of the elites. He means the values of those Westerners who continuously stand up against injustice and give their lives for this struggle, like Rachel Corrie or Assange. He simply should not call these values "Western" implying that they are different in the East. It is wrong to call human values and human morals 'Western values", same as calling them "Jewish values". These values are the same globally for people of conscience and humanity. Palestinians have the same values and they are not "Western" or "Eastern" or "Jewish" or "Muslim" values.
