Thank you for sharing your experience. The heavy legacy of Orientalism and the shameful “clash of civilizations” narrative are sadly ruling in the post-9/11 America, and having traveled through some of the world, I have to say that Arabophobia and hatred of Islam are very prominent in Germany and France, and of course, the champions of all hatred of Arabs are Israel and Zionists throughout the world.
So, unfortunately, I doubt that your options are many. However, fighting racism has never been done by removing the victims of bigotry from the society. Otherwise, all Black people should have moved to Africa instead of fighting racism in the United States.
Now the duty of all honest people is to stand for the Middle East, people of Arab descent and Islam — to defend them from persecution and to root out this rabid xenophobia. Precisely where this xenophobia rears its ugly head.
